Can anyone identify this plant for me please. I don't think it is from the allium family as there is not an onion smell to the leaves. Sorry the picture is not too clear,

has it any leaves?

Yes, narrow leaves, a bit like an allium.

Well, not an orchid!

An Allium having a bad hair day?

It is a strange one isn't it, I vaguely remember planting them years ago, and thought it was some kind of grape hyacinth, but there you go. It does look like a bad hair day Dorjac !!

Looks like a very poor Allium schubertii does it not?

Sorry to show my ignorance Owdboggy, but I don't know what that is. It doesnt have an oniony scent to it.

Some Alliums do not have a very pronounced onion smell. Indeed some of them have a decidely unpleasant non onion aroma.

Right. But this one has no smell at all. Thanks for trying to help.

I think Owdb is right... a poor specimen of Allium schubertii

I think you might be right Cinderella. I have just gone out and looked at a row of bulbs I moved last year. I seem to recall they were planted as a rather unattractive grape hyacynths. They are now about 18 inches tall with green seeds at the bottom what look like spent flowers higher up. There was a scruffly top knot of mauve flowers which is now fine dried up strands. Strange plant. Can't name it I'm afraid.

Thanks for that Dorjac. I really feel that is not a member of the allium family.

It is a poor picture, Cinderella, (you were too close to the flower and it is out of focus) but it 'could' be an orchid.
