I have a mature Discovery apple tree that over the years has produced a magnificent crop of delicious eating apples. This year I noticed what appeared to be cobweb type growths over the small scribes following flowering. This appears to have affected the crop and don't expect anything like the crop of previous years. Advice please. Many thanks

It sounds like wooly aphid. You need to get rid of it by scrubbing it away with a stiff bristled brush.
