Arum italicum. The common name is Lords and Ladies, the Lords being the handsome red berries, the ladies being the cream spade-shape flower. Snoopdog - they do have variable markings on the leaves. There is a garden cultivar (I forget the name), which has very handsome white markings on the leaves. They are one of the few plants that thrive in dry shade, so are a useful garden plant.

I have Arum italicum mamoratum, the one with the 'marbled' leaves and this doesn't spread everywhere, unlike the plain leaved arum italicum.

Sid that is the politest explanation of the name I have seen, and not the one I know!
Jaykaty so have I and it thrives close to a big conifer hedge, which is saying something. In fact I wish it did spread a bit more!

Lol Snoop, so you really meant you spread them everywhere...

Arum maculatum has the most number of common names of any British plant. Got a list of them somewhere. Most of them refer to the phallic nature of the inside of the flower.

The fruiting bodies or an arum lily… you will have seen the leaves and spathes earlier in the spring.
