Does anyone know where I can get echimaceous (spelling not correct i know)soil,it is i think gritty and slugs hate it.Also has anyone tried wool pellets,against the ravenous slug beasts, cannot kill them as son is Buddhist and talks darkly of Kharma .

Ericaceous potting compost doesn't bother slugs - you must mean Loosestrife's reference to diatomaceous earth, can you get that here, not sure, never tried. Used a lot in the States

Thanks all .It is diatomaceous earth but it kills some insects,think I will try wool pellets ,Sluggo do them.Bo x

Do you mean ericaceous? That's a compost meant for acid lovers like rhododendrons and heathers - never heard of it deterring slugs
Or do you mean diatomaceous earth? There is info about that on Google.
I don't think you killing them would hurt your son's karma, and if you don't mind about yours...
You can protec precious plants with a ring of copper strip[ which slugs and snails will not cross - you can get it in spools from garden centres. I haven't tried the wool.
