London, United Kingdom
As I have been trying to perfect every single part of my garden, I have some plants growing underneath arches with Roses giving shade over them; so I have cleared an undergrowth of about 2 metres wide, and now want to plant a Rhododendron which would put up with a shady area. I have identified one which is called "Lodens White", but I believe this is quite rare, (but lovely) and wondered if anyone knows where I can buy it. Its out of season, ...I may have to try again in the autumn, but if anyone knows...?

If you are living in London it is highly unlikely that you have acidic soil so you will need to use ericaceous compost in the planting hole, and make it pretty big. You will also need to feed the rhodo regularly with an ericaceous feed.

Hi, I don't think any garden is ever perfect, or finished, I find there is always something that you're not happy with, or want to change, I have been gardening in the same garden for 54 years, it still isn't perfect, or finished, every year something gets changed, Derek.

I'd agree with that Derek...

Me too never finished, always a job - what a great way to keep fit though. Hope you find the plant you are looking for, sounds lovely, if you find it put a picture up on here so we can all admire it please :O)

Not sure a rhodo is going to be happy in London clay… also rather hotter down south than it prefers.

It is actually Loder's White and you can order it from either:
Rhododendron Loder's White AGM - Millais Nurserieswww.rhododendrons.co.uk/.../rhododendron-loders-white-agm.aspx
or Loder Plants: Welcome to Camellia Grove, Hydrangea Havenwww.loder-plants.co.uk/
