I have a plant in my garden that was growing between two paving slabs so I dug it up and planted it in my border it grew from the size of a small dinner plate to about four feet tall and three feet wide in about 8 months. I have no idea what it is as I don't know anything about gardening please could you tell me what it is called and also whether I have to prune it back in the winter or not. many thanks. Roy.

It looks like Oenothera biennis, common evening primrose.

Thank you Bamboo, I shall look up how to maintain it now I know what I'm looking for.

This one's a biennial, so will kick the bucket end of this year - but not before producing a fair number of seeds. Can be a bit of a nuisance, they germinate easily in the ground, so if you want to keep some, just weed out the ones you don't want. Any that grow next year will flower the year after.

How do I say thanks?
