Good morning, afternoon or evening. I'm moving home in September and all my belongings, including my fuchsias in large pots, will have to go into store for three weeks. No doubt they will be in the dark and unwatered. Do you have any tips so they'll still be alive when liberated? Should I prune beforehand, etc.? Any advice most gratefully received.

do you have a friends or neighbousr where you are now, that could look after them, till you move, and collect them later? We had the same problem when we moved,as our belongings had to go into storage, but our plants in pots were here ,there, and everywhere, till we could collect them..

It's unlikely that you would be able to put them into normal removals storage, anyway, as they mostly have restrictions on anything that constitutes "perishable" material.

You don't say where you live or where you are moving to. Its just possible that a Goy member may be near either where you are now or where you are going?? its unlikely they would survive in the conditions you suggest when they are not dormant. What you could do however it so take cuttings from them all and root them in water. then on moving day you could put the rooted stems into a plastic bag for the journey and deal with them when you get to your new address.

Thank you very much for your replies. This is a very active site! I'm moving to the Isle of Wight - no car so too expensive and too difficult to come back and forth to collect plants. Thanks for mentioning that removers may not take my plants, Urbanite, I hadn't considered that. I think I will have to take Steragram's advice. I'm sure I hear my fuchsia's shriek when they see me approaching with my little knife - yet again! Happy gardening to you all.

Hope all your cuttings are successful. If you lose any just ask on here as somebody would surely be able to send you some, I certainly could. I hope the people who buy your house will enjoy the ones you have to leave behind.

If you are going home, no doubt you have relatives or friends nearby. Why don't you send the plants to them for care until you arrive. There are GOY members here that can tell you how to box the plants for the trip.
