I've had a Yew Tree in a very large pot for around 4 years. It has always done well until this summer when unfortunately it dried out. I soaked over night then drained it out and then put it back to it's normal routine. Unfortunately this is just not working. Leaves going yellow more and more and dropping off. I have not yet pruned it back but think I should. Can anyone out there give me any ideas on how to save it.. My garden soil is clay which I always used while it was a small plant, re-potting every two years until it was big enough to be transferred to the extra large container then I bought special soil so it would last for a few years.
I have not yet pruned it but think I should.
Does anyone out there have any ideas how I can save it please.

Thanks Derek I do feed it but was told not to feed often. Must admit only topped up soil once so will try that. I was told that it would be happy in the extra large pot as some people actually keep them as a bonsi. Our garden is overly full so no room in the ground for it to grow even though I agree it would probably long for that. I need some screening in a particular area in the front and as the area is blocked paved this is my only option.
Again many thanks for taking the time to reply. Mace

Hi, have you fed the plant ?, or top dressed with fresh compost ?, if not, after 4 years, there will be no nutrients left in the compost, it could also be pot bound, it would be better off in the ground, where it can really get established, and become the plant it desperately wants to be, Derek.
