Hi, I don't think it is russian vine, poligonum baldschuanicum, but I think it could be related, Himalayan knotweed, Poligonum polystachium, or worse still, Fallopia japonica, Japanese knotweed, but it is definitely a knotweed of some description, Derek.

Hi, according to Norfolkapple, it has hairy stems, and if you enlarge the photo, you can see that it does have hairy stems, and are a reddy colour, Derek.

It isn't Jap knotweed.

Snoopdog you have set me off laughing again - Finding it hard to type now. lol. Sorry folks have no idea but it doesn't look like the Russian Vine I have which is growing at a rate of knots. I have to attack it quite frequently but the birds like to nest in it and it does cover an area that needed to be covered and gives the border some shelter.
Now I shall have to go and lie down in a dark corner as I cannot stop giggling Snoopdog!!
