When can I prune my young Acer?
It has long arms growing out in all the wrong places
Also, if I decide to transplant it when should I do this, it has been getting too much strong sun this year and has suffered.

If this is a Japanese acer they don't usually need pruning at all but if you must prune wait until the tree is dormant... same for moving, though if it has been in the ground a few years you may not be able to move.
