Pruning time is immediately after it has flowered in spring, when you can trim over and take no more than 2 inches maximum over the whole bush. If you cut any deeper than that, it'll kill it.

They are relatively short lived so enjoy it while you can!
If its got too big perhaps you might think of starting off another one to replace it as they do tend to get a bit scraggy as they age (a bit like me...)
