If you have bought the bushes in pots you can plant them when the ground is suitable, ie not too dry. Otherwise best to leave it another month. If your bamboo is one of the many invasive ones it would be wise to put a root barrier round it to save you grief later.

If your rose is flourishihg ans still flowering i would leave it until later in the season.

And then you can give it a prune back , my Pauls scarlet is quite a vigorous climber

Sharon you can find a lot of info about root barriers on Google.Look also for Root Barrier Membranes. The purpose is to prevent the roots spreading far and wide - most varieties of bamboos (but not he "clumping " vairieties)will send up shoots quite a long way from the plant, and planted in the ground near a fence may well invade your neighbour's garden as well as yours. If you are growing in a pot this will not be a problem anyway, but if you are wanting a privacy screen and are planning on buying a small bamboo be careful to check the eventual height of the plant to make sure it will grow the right height for what you want. I googled a couple of small ones and the info said no taller than a metre and a half but some will get quite a lot taller and sound ideal as the "clumping " varieties like these don't need barriers.

If your rose will be in a pot you can plant it when you get it as long as you have prepared the ground. If it will be a bare root one (and they are a lot cheaper) they will not be available until planting time anyway, which is either November if the weather is fit (ie not too wet and not frosty)or early spring.

Is it a climber?
