How long does it take for a sweet chestnut tree to bear fruit? Ours is approx. 13yrs old. Cheers, Masie.

it could litterely be any time id say as a large long lived tree you've got at least the same to wait again .

Hi, I agree with Np, they seem to crop well, every 12 to 30 years, they are 1 of the oldest trees in the world, there is 1 that is reputedly between 2 and 4 thousand years old, I think, somewhere in Italy, they have a better chance of cropping well in a long hot summer, they are not a british native, having been introduced by the Romans, but they are more or less accepted as native, considering the length of time they have been here, Derek.

They puzzle me a lot. I've often seen the cases fallen to the ground under large mature trees but never with mature nuts in, they are always poor thin little things with no meat in. I wonder why?

Derek, it's in Sicily. I visit it when I went over there and it's a monster, at least the trunk is, it will take you a day to walk round it, haha. I remember the tour guide telling us that it was reputably the oldest tree in Europe, if not in the world. I think that the locals refer to is as the tree of many horses.
