I have a Cordyline that is displaying red flowers from a huge middle stem. Is this unusual? Photo is from a week ago. Thank you.

It looks like a Yucca recurvifolia, GAC, one of the showier and hardier species. Once it's done blooming, carefully cut the dead flower stem out, so it doesn't interfere with the new rosette(s) developing at it's base.

Many thanks for the very enlightning answers & the advice (Tug). Yes the needles are very very sharp.

No, they do flower quite often. Is it a Cordyline, though, or a Yucca?
