I have a few strawberries growing at the end of a deep bed that was mostly covered over (plastic) until yesterday. I uncovered it to plant my leeks out and found that some creature had been picking all the ripe strawberries and had piled them up a couple of foot away from the strawberries - under the cover. They had not been eaten and were rotting in their - quite big - heap. What could have done this? Also under the cover was a mammoth ant nest (it should move now i've watered it with (cold!) peppermint tea) but would ants do it????

AAh! well i don't mind that - i have more in my fruit cage. How funny of them to be so busy storing it - tho they don't keep! I looked today and about half the pile has gone - so i expect the mouse is in a panic to move them elsewhere!!!
Rats i don't mind either - as long as they stay outside!! years ago i had them living in the house and crawling over everything - yeuch! - they would cavort around all night - whilst my lurcher and 2 cats sat on the sofa looking embarassed!
Many thanks, hoya
