Can anyone please put a name to this rambling tree/shrub and inform how quick it grows?

Agree Virginia Creeper, aka mile a minuite vine!

Always thought "mile a minute" was the climber Polygonum perfoliata. Virginia creeper as in the picture is Parthenocissus tricuspidata

that's the problem with common names. Mile a minute refers to several fast climbers depending on location. so I think it is a Parthenocissus but don't know which species as I think there are a few in the genus.

Thank you. How far apart do you plant?

David how are you planning on using this vine? It is normally grown up a wall and one vine can cover the complete front of a house.

I am wanting to cover a wire netting fence approx. 7ft high and somewhere in the region of 50ft long.

Sorry David a Virginia creeper won't grow up a wire netting fence. It clings to the wall using suckers. Even if it was a twiner the weight of the creeper would likely bring the fence down.

Have a close look at the photo, that is on wire netting.

Sorry can't see any netting BUT this creeper uses suction pads to attach itself to a wall… Sorry!

Look immediately behind the end of the bench.

David okay I can see the netting but the sucker pads can't attach to that so they must have something else they are attaching to.

Looks like Boston Ivy (Parthenocissus tricuspidata) to me. Also a fast grower. In my experience, the tendrils that produce the sucker pads will also wrap around sufficiently thin wire. Another possibility is Blueberry Creeper (Ampelopsis), but that isn't usually that glossy.

Thank you all for your help.

Difficult to tell if it is Boston Ivy or Virginia Creeper are there 5 or 3 leaflets? Id 5 Boston Ivey if 3 Virginia Creeper.

Boston Ivy normally has simple leaves with 3-7 palmate lobes, depending on variety and stage of growth. Virginia Creeper normally has palmately compound leaves, with 5-11 separate leaflets, depending on variety and stage of growth. I have seen Boston Ivies with 3 separate leaflets--not like Poison Ivy!--but am unsure if this is a different variety, or an aberration.
