Hi Lots2learn, you are meant to eat it when the broccoli when the flowers are still buds if they are now bright yellow flowers you have left it too late. If it is just the central spear that has flowered you could cut this out and see if the side shoots grow.

Thanks for your answer. All in flower so not sure if that's it for those plants and we should start again and dig them up or will they come back next season?

Remove and start again - though it is late to sow broccoli seed now.

I would still cut out the flowering shoots, leaving as many leaves as possible, and feed it moderately. Most varieties will put out side shoots. Just remember to harvest these at an earlier stage!
