Probably need a little more info such as planting, watering and did you add fertiliser when planting etc. A photo close up might show that it is still ticking...

Mother's Day, hmm - weather was cold, so I'm willing to bet the tree was under cover when you bought it - if you planted it straight outside without hardening it off, that may well have killed it.
