My Mum was given a cutting of this plant, described as a 'thug'. It is beautifully perfumed, flowering profusely now in October, southeast of England, dies away to nothing in winter, but she would love to know what it is!

Looks like Russian vine, Fallopia baldschuanica - a really rampant scrambling plant.

If that's what it is it can cover a whole shed so thickly you can't see the shed so do be careful where you put it!

That was my thought too Badfish -looks somewhat similar to Persicaria campanulatus but the leaves are different

If the plant dies away to nothing in the winter then it is not going to root now. Is this a plant growing in someones garden or in the wild - I don't like the look of the bracken in the background and fear that it might be an alien invasive plant.

(put some water on the cut then put root growing hormone powder(optional) then put it in damp soil.
