When is the best time to plant Chinese Lantern? A friend has just given me two or 3 good sized roots, and the plant still has its orange lanterns.

I'd get it into the ground right away Sally it is an easy plant to grow and fully hardy… see Spaldings info below
Prepare a suitable hole and plant the Chinese Lanterns 5 cm below soil level in well-drained humus rich soil in an herbaceous border. Fill the hole with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. During the growing period, water freely and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks.

Thanks Moon Grower! I shall go and plant them right now! The sun is shining and its a lovely day in Edinburgh in any case - so no trouble to be in the garden. Good wishes.

By the way Wildlifebalconey until GCs came into existence and folk wanted to buy and plant something in flower the majority of planting was done in the autumn. Summer is not a good time to plant perennials as they need much more care and watering when it is hot.
