Can anyone explain how to cut back bergenia cordifolio leggy stems (tubors?) without damaging plant, mine have outgrown the border & extended over pathway.

You can just trim off any 'branches' that are too long. The plant will resprout and get bushier, so make sure that you trim back further than you need the edge of the clump to be. Pot up the cut off pieces for more plants!
