I have some naturalised annual plants appearing in my garden that are very similar to cape gooseberry with their seed pod cases and flower form, only the flowers are sky blue rather than the usual yellow. I can't find any reference anywhere to a blue flowered form. Any ideas?

The ordinary Chinese lanterns of the physalis family which is the most likely to self seed, have orange or yellow flowers. Like Spritzhenry I'd like to see a photo to see just what this plant could be.

Thanks for these comments. Please see the photo of the plant as it is at present just before flowering.

Could you post a photo, please? I can't think of any plant that meets your desciption...the seed pods of Nigella damascena are similar, but the leaves are totally different, and I think you'd recognise them....
