An ID of two plants if possible please - the pink one is rampant as you can see and I suspect it's a weed but the flowers are such a gorgeous colour I'm keeping it. Two plants appeared from nowhere.

The little blue ones just appeared as well and are spreading. The iris leaves behind them are dwarf so the plants are only about 6-8ins tall....I wondered if they were a kind of salvia but the leaves are different

First one's a very pretty poppy (papaver), not sure about the second one - are the leaves we can see in the third picture the leaves associated with the blue flowers? Veronica gentianoides possibly?

Yes the leaves on the left are those of the plant. It's a very tidy, compact plant.....ah, I hadn't thought of a veronica......

Is the other really a poppy? I didn't know poppies also grew out like that from a central point - the second picture is the two plants rampaging up the slope.....

I think the first is a herbaceous Potentilla, specifically Potentilla nepalensis. The second is a Veronica, but I think Veronica spicata.

Yes Fractal, that's the pink one - so I can keep it with a good conscience then?

I can see that the other is a veronica but according to google results gentianoides is light blue, which this isn't and spicata grows to 40cm which this definitely doesn't.....

Thanks to both though :-)

Could be one of the dwarf forms of V. spicata? Try Royal Candles or Ulster Blue Dwarf.

....and yes, I would keep the Potentilla!

How do I say thanks?
