It gets pruned in the spring and you can cut it back as hard as you like it will grow up again and flower just like this year. One word of warning however I have found it likes to wander via under ground stems. I would ruthlessly cut them out as soon as you spot them or it will be all over the garden in no time.

Thanks Scotsgran, I did give it a light prun after it had flowered but this afternoon I see it's in flower again, I see what you nmean about the suckers, thanks for that......

Yes very much, I don't regret any of it. I now have a much bigger garden than what I did have and feel so much more relaxed here. Once again thank you I've just added you on to my favorites.....

That's Spiraea douglasii (Steeple bush) - bit different from other spiraeas - was surprised to discover it's one of them, lol
