i have grown from seed strawflowers hely something they have beautiful flowers. however i did not realise how tall they would grow. can i move them to the back of the bed? if so when? love tobysmum.

Helichrysum is the name you're grasping for, Tobysmum! These flowers, whilst beautiful, are only annuals, so you will need to grow more for next year, and if you move them now, they won't cope.

If you're lucky you might be able to collect seed from the old flowerheads, if you're not keeping them for indoors, but otherwise, start them off next spring - they're hardy annuals, but won't go through a winter outside, so should be sown in April, outdoors, or earlier indoors.

Hmm, not sure how successful that would be, unless you can provide a spot with full sun. I used to collect the flowerheads, put them in a dish and sprinkle pot pourri scent or lavender essential oil over them. Amazing how long they keep their colour.
