I'd like to say "thank you" to those persons who answered my query about hellebore sensitivity.It was encouraging to have such prompt responses. I shall take the advice proffered. Paul.

I am sorry that you are sensitive to the plants. I know the pain of burnt fingers I discovered to my cost that semi-dry/drying hyper-tufa (cement/peat/sand mix) can cause terrible alakaline burns. Fortunately I had seen burns like it before so I know what to do (wash hands in mild acid to counteract the alkalinity) and then plaster burns cream over it. Even so the loss of skin was very painful and somewhat inconvenient.
Hopefully with surgical gloves you can carry on sowing your Hellebores in safety.

I will leave it till next March to prune them.
