welcome to GoY. camellia are happy in some dappled shade so not full sun. they can be pruned if they get straggly but I'd do it immediately after it has flowered. Then it will have time to produce new buds through the summer before the following spring. Give it a good feed after pruning.

Also if your area ever gets frost it needs to be planted where the early morning sun will not shine on it.

Which State, Darra? They can take more sun in central Georgia, than in central California--or Arizona! Still, even in Georgia, they are probably best with some filtered shade. Here in south-central Arizona, they need full bright shade--under a solid cover, but within 6 feet of open sky.

She lives in central Florida - it says so in the question. Bright shade sounds fine. If leggy then yes you can prune, best in spring after any flowering.

Sorry, Botanic...it didn't say in the question when I first saw it. As where I live, I would give them bright full shade, or sun filtered through 70% to 90% shade cloth. As Seaburngirl says, prune right after they are done blooming.
