We have a Forsythia growing in an area of the garden which will shortly be built on. Looking at the plant there appears to be what looks like a sucker. Is it possible to take this sucker and store it in a large pot for a couple of years?

well it is worth a try. I assume when you say store you mean potted up and kept alive :o) It is certainly possible that it will grow happily.

They are quite easy to root and I'd dig up what you can and pot up or transplant in the garden

Also I'd bring in a couple of branches with flower buds on now - they will open in the warmth of the house. Then when the flowers are over just stick the branches in the ground as if they were pea sticks - they often do root quite easily like this. If your sucker survives you can always give them away.

I kept a cutting done that way in a pot for about three years and it was fine.

How do I say thanks?
