What is this amazing spider? I was examining my sweetpea leaves when I came across this very colourful spider.

I'm afraid the pics are not very good, you may need your magnifying glass, but it really is the brightest of greens with clear yellow lines and a bright red bottom spot:-)

there probably the male and the female . the males are normaly smaller than the females so if you could both estimate size youl find out maybe .

It is definitely a female Cucumber Spider (Araniella cucurbitina) which is one of the orb-weaver spiders.
Here's a good pic of one:

Like many spiders the colours are quite variable in brightness (they can modify their colours to blend in with their background) and yours has a particularly green abdomen.

ow orb web spiders are lovley . yes ilex fish do the same . in different parts of the amozan red belly pirahna vary depending on the water conditions .i guess through millions of years they would or could become different subspecies . the darwin theory makes perfect sense to me . thanx for that ilex .

This one is a pretty good likeness Ilex, but mine is definitely prettier lol:-) The prize goes to Elless for First Identification, Best Picture goes to you Ilex, and Nosey, you get a prize for showing me how to 'copy' so I no longer have to type out the http thingummys:-) It used to take me ages and then I would find I'd typed in one wrong letter or number 8~/ I wonder how come most of us have never seen one before, they are so bright? :-)

some times you cant see the wood for the trees i guess and it mite be a camoflauge excuse my spelling of some sort . it could also be an introduced species or introduced itself on the warm trade winds miles in the air as a spiderling which spiders commonly do . whatever it is its very nice and im glad i helped . take care bye for now .

Lol. I'm so pleased I got first prize. I just googled "green, yellow and red spider" and hey presto!
