Almost buying a lovely golden "conifer" type plant, that l had almost bought a few times previously, l noticed the card said ERICA, and stopped as it was almost £10.Having tried heathers a few times and decided my soil was 'the wrong kind' l resisted.lt didn't mention Ericasious soil on the lable, does anyone have one in their garden, who can give me any advise? They do look lovely this time of year when every thing else is so dull.

I have had one for two years in lightly acid soil, pH 6.5 and it seems quite happy. It is the summer flowering heathers (calluna) that really need the ericaceous soil.

I have learned that Alpines do better with Ericaceous soil.
Am starting another collection.

It sounds as if you are describing a Tree Heather, Pl, such as 'Albert's Gold'. They are a tall variety of Erica that thrive well in most well drained soils, some even tolerate limey soils so an ericaceous compost is not required. They are long lived and grow up to about 6ft tall.
We don't have one at the moment but it could well be usefull in our garden.
