Primula Vulgaris

East Sussex, United Kingdom

I have lots of primula vulgaris in my garden. Now that the flowers are well and truly over the decaying leaves look horrible. Can I cut them back?

The leaves shouldn't all decay like that - they sometimes do it if the weather is very wet, but I'd imagine yours are all brown and crispy - water is what they need. Remove all damaged, dead and dying leaves and if that's all of them, well then take them all, but if you don't water, you may lose them.

As Bamboo says the leaves should not be dying back at present. I'd say they need water, primula vulgaris needs moist conditions.

How do I say thanks?
