Greenhouse question. I am in the process of erecting a 6x10 greenhouse which comes with 2 auto vents for roof windows and a louvre window. The GH will be sited with long side about a metre from a high hedge ( not on the sunny side) . I wonder which side is best for the louvre window. I will put the roof windows on opposite side. Thanks for any advice.

The temperature differential between the light and dark sides of the GH will produce a convection current of air so I would put the Louvre window on the dark side. This will allow for two important things to occur..first, you will give your plants good air circulation and second, give you some degree of temperature control in the GH since cool air will come in from the window on the shade side and heated air will exit up through the vents on the sunny side. Controlling how much cool air comes in and how much warm air exists will give you optimal temp control by this method.

I'd personally do it opposite the hedge. The reason being is that the hedge will stop any breeze or airflow into the GH. I have a similar situation with my 10 x 8. One side faces south yet the other is 6" away from a fence. All my roof and louvre vents are on the south side.

I got to say heat rises so louvres the cool side at the bottom and the vents on the hot side causing circulation by convection as said . not that I know anything about greenhouses . youll just get dead spots in corners but you would anyway . remember your cool side could get very green very quick so make sure you can get down that side .

I'd move the greenhouse further away from the hedge if at all possible, if only to give yourself enough space to trim the hedge without worrying about smashing the greenhouse in the process. Allow yourself at least twice the length of your hedge trimmer, long loppers etc, plus the length of your arms so that you can move.

I'd go for louvres on the shady side - no point in drawing air that's hot already if you can avoid it.

Hi, I think ideally, you need 2 vents on either side at the top, and at least 1 louvre vent on each side, so that you can open them all if it gets too hot, or just 1 side, depending on which way the wind is blowing, if it's just for ventilation, Derek.
