I want to grow my own plants for my baskets this year, it cost me over a £100.00 last year to get them filled. I don't have a greenhouse, what would you recommend from seed ?
The only plants I'll probably buy will be geraniums as they are quite inexpensive

Yes, I agree. Plug plants are brilliant, and usually available from mid-March. If you buy trailing Verbena you will have flowers all summer long.

Just in case you need convincing, Segovia, I discovered a selection of Plug plants in a garden centre this morning. I have just potted them up into slightly larger pots, and have 33 plants for £37.29! For baskets and tubs, 16 trailing Verbena, 6 Petunia, 2 Fuchsia, 4 Bacopa; and 5 Nemesia for the border.

I'll check out my local garden centre at the weekend
Thanks

Apart from the likes of lobelia, most trailing plants which you will use in baskets, i.e. Surfinias, Ivy Geraniums, Million Bells, Fushias and Begoinas are quite expensive to buy even as seeds, so I would make life easy and go for plug plants later on in the season and grow them on in a home made, sheltered, cold frame when it warms up a little.
