Weeping birch. My lovely weeping birch is literally weeping. We've had no rain today but it is leaking water from its branches quite close to where we pruned off a protuding branch. Am baffled. Held my hand out to catch the droplets and it is clear and no smell. Didn't taste it howver! Any ideas?

Some people actually tap the trunk and collect the sap to make wine with. Never tried it myself.

I pruned one branch last week. It is quite a substantial tree so thought one branch wouldn't do it any harm. Thanks for your reples. I will keep an eye on it.

Only prune in winter when the sap is down.

Previous question
When did you prune Amsterdam? If the sap had already risen in the tree then it will weep.
