A bit of close inspection on your part is necessary, probably using a tape measure - I can't tell from the picture which Azalea it is. Two types are sold for indoor use - one is much commoner than the other these days, and that's Rhododendron simsii, the Indian Azalea. This one can't survive outdoors. The other type is Rhododendron obtusum, the Japanese azalea, and that one will survive outdoors, if hardened off properly before planting out, though I'd keep it indoors until the flowers fade anyway.

The Indian azalea has leathery leaves, around 1.5 inches long, with hairy undersides - the flowers are open and bellshaped and measure 1.5-2 inches across when open. The flowers, once open seem to cover the whole plant with not much leaf being visible.

The Japanese azalea has a glossy leaf 1-1.5 inches long, with funnel shaped flowers 1 inch across when fully open, and even when all flowers are open, the ratio of flowers to leaves is about even. From what I can see in the picture, I suspect you might be lucky and its the Japanese azalea, but I can't be sure whether that faint sheen I see on some of the leaves is just a trick of the light or not.
