erysimum bowles mauve. i just bought some plug plants via the internet. they seem to have good roots and look healthy, they are about 3-4 inches high but the stems are 'woody'. is this normal. I was expecting 'soft growth'

as long as they have roots they will grow away fine. but I too would have expected some softer growth.

Hi, I would tend to agree with you, at that size, and sold as plugs, I would expect soft growth as well, I took some cuttings from mine last autumn, and they now have woody stems at the base, but the new growth is soft, and they're about 12" tall, and starting to flower in a cold greenhouse.
Did you by any chance get them from t&m ?, Derek.
