How to grow potatoes?
Hi, I'm quite keen on the idea of growing my own tatties but what will I need? Can you grow them in a container?

Hi Bluebell, yes you can grow potatoes in a container but, you are far better off growing them in the ground! Whether in the ground or a container they need good light and in both cases you will need to keep adding soil, either earthing up if in the ground or adding more compost to your container. Much easier to grow in the ground if you are able to do so.

Thanks guys, I appreciate that advice :) Think I will start my next project - a little veg patch. I'm already growing some lettuce. Hope you have a lovely Easter both of you.

Yes.You need a deep one. Put abut 8" compost in it, put your seed potatoes on top and cover with more compost. As they grow add more compost. It isn't worth growing main crop in a container - best grow first earlies. There is loads of info on line about just how to do it. You can buy large foldable plastic containers meant for the job. Seed potatoes are labelled - make sure you get first earlies, or earlies at any rate. You wn't get many in a container though as they need to be plkanted about a foot apart.
