Globe Thistle
I have had a globe thistle for may 5/6 years
I've had it in the ground...2 maybe 3 flower stalks
I've had it in a container.... no better
Foliage always turns brown and tatty looking
Any advice from someone who has success with these would be appreciated
Position/soil conditions etc.
Thanks

Mine grow successfully in poor, dry soil near a south facing fence. They prefer full sun. The first new shoots often appear very early in the year and get frosted and turn brown, I just cut these off. Later shoots will be OK. I don't think this plant is suitable for growing in a pot

Mine grows in poor soil. The roots are in shade, but the heads are in full sun, and it's been growing there happily for nearly 20 years.

« How long can you keep soil and compost in sealed bags County of Northumberland
Believe it or not mine is planted under a semi prostrate conifer, so I would say they quite tolerate a poor dry type of soil. It grows very rampant , and I have to tie it up due to the windy aspect just there, but it does get plenty of sunlight. I love the fact it feeds the bees to there hearts content
Hope this may be of some help
