Is there a systemic weedkiller I can use on dandelions? My front garden is one of a small open-planned private estate. After avoiding all chemicals for 22 years it is now dandelion paradise. Not much grass either. I feel that it is letting my neighbours down and have decided to take action. There are other wild flowers in there which I want to keep so do not want to use a blanket weedkiller. Thankyou

With a spray bottle of glyphosphate you can usuall narrow the jet down to a very narrow one. Then you carefully direct the jet to the heart of the dandelion and any obvious leaves.

Some good ideas here and i think I'll go for the glyphosphate route, which sounds the easiest for me, although reseeding would probably give a more even result. Too much work for me though.
Thankyou Landgirl and Bulba. My neighbours will be astonished! But pleasantly so I hope.

The best and safest weedkiller that I have used is Verdone II. One application a year is usually all that's needed, and if any stray weeds appear a spot treatment gets rid of them.
Apparently the way it works is that it's a super fertiliser that causes plants to grow so fast that they get knurley and can't cope with the super fast growth and die. That to me sounds a very safe way of getting rid of weeds if you are an environmentally friendly type of person. A cap full in a watering can is all that's needed, sprinkled on your lawn, it's selective so it doesn't kill the grass.
I have also noticed that B&Q are doing a similar item. Same bottle, same ingredients but a lot cheaper. It's probably made by the same company that makes Verdone.

You can buy glyphosate in a small dab-on pack and you could use that to individually treat each dandelion rosette. Alternatively, you could use one of the tools that lever out dandelions (I have one made by Fiskars) - again very labour-intensive. The third option would be to dig up some of the wild plants that you want to keep and plant them elsewhere temporarily, while you blitz the lot with Roundup or similar, then re-seed or turf and replant the wanted wild flowers. Good luck!
