Does sage require cutting back in the winter? as this year my sage is looking woeful

Answers

Sage always looks tatty in spring, so that's when I cut it back. It quickly makes new growth at this time of year. I would be cautious about cutting it down in winter as the old growth gives it some protection.

Agree with Landgirl - leave it alone in autumn/winter, cut back around now, as growth begins and the weather warms.
