Help! I want to fill an area in "2ft deep" with soil behind my fish pond but have a well established Honeysuckle & Clematis there, would it hurt to bury the stems? Or would it kill them off?

or you can gradually add the soil say 6" every month to give the plants time to produce extra roots from the buried stems. It will cause less shock and probably allow the plants to survive.

I was thinking that SBG - maybe not 6" per month but over the next couple of winters - it will encourage new shoots - that's why new clematis are planted lower than the pot. It might depend on how woody the lower stems are.
The other option would be to construct a retaining wall between the pond and the bed. What's at the front/sides of the pond? (Photo please!)

Thanks for all your info, I will take a picture and add it to my question soon so you can see the area.
Urbanite. Thats a good idea to construct a retaining wall, thats if it would work in the space I have, well worth a try though :o))

Neither shrub is going to like having 2 foot of soil dumped on top of it. You'll need to wait until autumn, carefully lift them both, get the soil in and replant a.s.a.p. and make sure you water them well.
