HOW TO GET AN IVY GROW UP A IRON RUSTY GARDEN POLE. IT HAS GONE UP A LITTLE WAY. COULD I WRAP SOME SORT OF MATERIAL AROUND THE POLE?

I listened to GQT the other day and according to them plants like ivy and parthenocissus won't cling to surfaces that are dusty or flaky so have a go with the wire brush where you want it to cling to
then take the above advice....

id just either Thompson the pole or put chicken wire around it .

Ivy clings using little sucker pads, it won't cling to chicken mesh and, probably, won't cling to a metal pole either when I think about it.
