Can anybody suggest a reason why my sweetpeas aren't flowering yet? They're about 3ft tall, in a pot in a nice sunny but sheltered spot.

I'd like to know how deep the pot is - unless you've bought a dwarf variety, sweet peas like a nice deep root run, so should be in a pot that's 2 feet deep minimum.

Oooops! I have the same problem Mandym...but mine are perennial ones! They are in two pots 18" deep....is that my problem then too? Loads of leaf...but no flowers!

18 inches is just about enough, Izzy, and if you have lots of leaves, they're fine I'd think. I'm beginning to wonder if the hot weather is responsible - they're the same family as runner beans, and lots of people are finding either no flowers or no beans setting, and they don't like excessive heat, so maybe its the same for sweet peas.

Thanks Seaburngirl & Bamboo, think pot is deep enough, loads of green leaves but no flowers. I'll keep my fingers crossed as suggested!

I've had the same problem with no flowers appearing. I've come to the conclusion that it is so hot in the courtyard where they are, with additional heat reflecting off the white walls, that the flowers buds have been frazzled. It's been cooler over the past two days and a very few buds are now showing signs of opening instead of vanishing.....so fingers crossed here too
