Pieris.I have 2 forest flame pieris which were turning red and then virtually overnight it all turned brown and dead looking.I can't see any visible beasties but there are hard brown dots on the stems which scrape off with my nail.I would be grateful for any advice please.

That might be the problem alternatively if they had been planted fairly recently it is possible you haven't watered them enough.

Agree with Moon Grower, but wouldn't mind a picture of these 'hard brown dots' on the stem - might be a scale infestation, but that isn't the cause of the leaves shrivelling.

These are well established having been in for years.They are in opposite ends of the garden.Will try and take photo tomorrow (if I can figure out how to send it from an IPad) Thanks for the replies.

If you have a camera rather than the iPad please use as there are often problems with iPad pics.
