Supposedly, if you rub a leaf, the top and bottom layers separate, and you can blow through the two membranes to make a loud squealing noise. I myself have managed everything but the squeal--maybe it's like learning to whistle! Imagine them being grown commercially for the musical instrument industry, like clarinet reeds! : D
