In my garden there are two shrubs and I think they are called red robin. as soon as the lovely red leaves grow they fall off and the shrubs are looking sparse also the older greenier leaves are mottely. are they slowly dieing on me

Are they in pots or in the ground (if you can't supply a photograph) and how long have you had them?
When you say the older leaves are mottled, do you actually mean spotted?
