We have a horse chestnut and the bark has split quite alarmingly this spring. We are worried that this might allow disease to enter. What should we do? Would be grateful for advice. It seems otherwise healthy and we had it checked out only last autumn by an arborist. Thanks.

It could well be the newly arrived bleeding canker which has begun killing horse chestnuts. i would get it checked out again. Visit Woodlandtrust.org.uk and go to the tree disease section for starters..
