cutting back a mature bush after flowering to obtain new growth before the autumn

On plant Carpenteria californica

Answers

Pruning recommended for this one is "Prune over lightly in late winter to shape, and removing any dead wood". This plant, whilst hardy, should not be cut back hard at any time, and for most plants, not this late in the season - any growth you force it to make by cutting back in such a way will not have time to harden off before autumn/winter arrives

How do I say thanks?
