I have just purchased an Acacia dealbata a large evergreen shrub. There was no size on the label and looking on line I see it grows to a very large specimen tree. This I don't want, can I keep this pruned to a shrub? if so how rampant will it be. How big a space would it need

And I know of no way you can keep pruned to a small shrub!

I did this with a 'Robin' - have put it in a large pot and
decided when it outgrows that out it will have to go.

Sorry, that should have been Photinia 'Robin' - never
waste anything !
As it grows 20 ft. high my plan is to give it in its pot to the
local allotment field to be replanted at the side of the
car park where there is plenty of space.

I put one in the garden a few years ao and it rapidly grew to cast lovely dappled shade over a section of the patio bu the rate of growth each year was worrying and also the roots began to lift the patio floor, so, sadly, it had to go. I think you'd be best to take it back or advertise it for sale. They are beautiful and have a wonderful scent..................BUT!

Thanks every one, you have frightened the life out of me!!!! glad I asked the question. I was just smitten with the color, leaf form and something different in the garden center. Pays to stop and think some times!!

And the moral of this story is....look it up before you buy it!
