Hi,
I am growing potatoes for the first time this year and need some advice please?
I have planted them in a deep container and covered them with compost about 10cms down.
They have just started to shot up through the surface, do I cover them again with compost? Or if not what should I do next? Please help on the next stages?
Many thanks

If you are pleased with the results, then next year try some of the plastic bags you can buy from the garden centres and grow some early potatoes. I have found that they need lots of water and you can buy some potato fertiliser from the pound shop. Also when the foliage becomes longer, I put four canes in the side of the pot and tie string around to support the growth to stop it flopping over. If you have experimented with main crop potatoes, then you will have to wait until the foliage begins to die down where as with most early varieties they start to mature after flowering.

Yes, keep covering them with compost until the bag is full.
